We are all unique in our golf abilities, competitiveness, and expectations for ourselves and others.  Because of that and so that everyone can have an enjoyable round of golf, we must be willing to abide by some universally accepted common golf practices.

Golf Etiquette

i.e. respect for your fellow golfers

  • Balls must go in the hole (no “gimmies”)
  • Count every stroke (even whiffs!)
  • Mark your ball on the green
  • On the green, do not walk on other players’ putting line
  • Maximum strokes per hole is 16
  • No chatting on the green
  • Do not talk while other players are swinging
  • Move to the next tee box to record scores
  • Observe the 90 degree rule if using a golf cart
  • Avoid driving carts in the rough
  • Park on the golf path (not slightly off it)
  • Push/walking carts should be parked on the side of the green or in back (not in front)
  • You are disqualified from “play of the day” if you pick up your ball (other than marking it on the green)
  • Play “Ready Golf”
  • Arrive at Riverview at least 45 minutes before your scheduled tee times (Tee times can change for a variety of reasons.  If you are not there when your group tees off, you will not be playing that day!)
  • If you need to cancel your tee time before Tuesday morning, call/text Jean or Bev. If not until Tuesday morning, call the pro shop.
  • Fill your divots with sand, fix your ball marks and rake the sand traps.

Ready Golf

  • Track the shot of everyone in your group so you do not waste time looking for balls.  (There is a 3 minute limit to look for a lost ball.)
  • One practice swing should be enough before you address the ball.
  • Think ahead.  Start planning your next shot as you approach the ball and be ready when it is your turn.
  • After you play your ball, start walking, or get in your cart with your clubs and put them in your bag after you stop for the next shot.
  • Play “ready golf” on both the fairway and the green.  While other players are deciding which club to use or are lining up the putt, you may play your ball - even if you are not the furthest from the hole.
  • If you cannot drive your cart to the ball, take three clubs - the one you think you will use plus one more and one less.
  • Park golf carts or pull carts on the back of the green or on the side of the green closest to the next tee rather than in front of the green.
  • Line up your putt while others are putting.
  • If someone is raking the sand trap while others are on the green, those players on the green may begin putting.
  • After putting, get off the green.  Mark your scores and place your putter in the bag at the next tee box.
  • If there is a hole open in front of your group, make an effort to close the gap!
  • When you finish your round, go to the club house to complete your scoring.
